Therapy Services

Counseling Services

Individual therapy using evidence-based approaches to help you work through life's challenges and improve your mental well-being.

My Approach

I use a combination of talk-therapy and coping skills drawn from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This approach focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors to be more positive and realistic.

You are the expert on yourself. My role is to provide a supportive, non-judgmental space where we work together to understand your challenges and develop practical strategies for positive change.

Questions

Frequently Asked

01How many treatment sessions will be needed?
People often have a misperception that people spend YEARS in therapy. Many people can resolve issues in 6-8 sessions. For more complicated issues, I typically see people around 6 months to a year, depending on the severity of the issues. Some people do see me for several years but often by then we see each other much less frequently or they just return for another episode of treatment as needed when life issues come up.
02Can you provide medication? What is the difference between a psychiatrist and psychologist?
No, I do not have an MD and cannot prescribe medication. I provide counseling and assessment services. A Psychiatrist is a professional with a medical degree who can prescribe mental health medications. I can refer you to a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner if that is something you feel would be beneficial.
03What can I expect at the first session?
We will start by reviewing your paperwork and getting to know one another. Then we will spend the rest of the time talking about the problems that have brought you in and talk about what I can do to help. I encourage people to ask questions at any time.
04What is your specialty?
I am a Master's level psychologist specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This type of therapy will help you change your negative thoughts and behaviors to be more positive and realistic and help improve your mood. My specialty is working with individuals with mood disorders including anxiety and depression. I also enjoy teaching mindfulness meditation techniques.
05Are you available for night or weekend appointments? Or online?
No, I do not offer weekend appointments. I occasionally offer 5 PM appointments for crises or emergencies but will not usually offer them as a regularly scheduled time. I prefer in-person sessions, but will offer Telehealth sessions if it is beneficial for the person. I have been offering online Telehealth since COVID19 pandemic and will continue to offer that as long as insurance companies are covering it.
06How often will we schedule appointments?
I prefer to see clients every 1-2 weeks in the beginning of treatment and usually space out the sessions as symptoms improve. The majority of my clients come in every 2 weeks.
07How much will it cost?
Self-pay/out of pocket cost is $135.00 per hour for therapy services and $180.00 per hour for assessment services. If you have insurance, they will usually pay a portion of therapy costs. Most people pay a co-pay around $25-50, OR they have a high deductible plan where they pay the negotiated rate we have with the insurance company until the deductible is met. The best way to find out the exact cost is to call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask them the cost for "outpatient mental health therapy."
08How do I know if you are covered by my insurance?
I do accept most major insurances - see list on my website. You can also call and ask your insurance if I am one of their providers if you are unsure.
09How long are the sessions?
A therapeutic hour is 53-55 minutes.
